5.2 Static public IP address

5.2 Static public IP address

BRP needs to be able to communicate with hardware connected to customers' local networks, this requires that the facility has a static public IP or a dynamic DNS in addition to port forwards.

BRP is neither responsible for nor able to offer this to customers, but customers must first contact their ISP to request a static public IP, (important that it is IPv4). If a static IPv4 address is impossible to obtain from the ISP, the second option is to set up a dynamic DNS. Several services offer this possibility, but it is not something that BRP provides.

It is becoming increasingly common for ISPs to place their customers behind CGNAT, it is important to point out that this cannot be used if the customer has local hardware that BRP needs to communicate with.
