Variable Product

A Variable Product is a product that represents a group of similar products that differ only by certain product properties. A Variable Product itself has no price or account and cannot be sold directly—rather, it serves as a starting point. From there, the customer chooses specific properties (such as color, size, or print), which then determines the underlying Item or Stock Item product.

In a typical web shop, you can view different products, and when you click on one, you can choose from various properties—such as color, size, and print. By using Variable Products and Product Properties, it’s now possible to achieve this in the API. In the future, support will be extended to the customer web, and later to Point of Sale, Resource Planner, and Self Service Station.

A Variable Product has its own name, description, and image, which are used to display the product on the customer web.

Variable Products can be added to Product/Item type web categories.

Buttons and Their Functions

• Plus sign (New)
  When you create a new product from the plus sign button in the Variations table under a Variable Product, the new product will have certain fields pre-filled from the Variable Product.

• Trash can icon
  Removes the product from the variations list. It does not delete the product itself.

• Copy Product
  Functions similarly to copying a product from the product list. The difference is that the copied product is also added to the variations list of the current Variable Product.

The fields that are pre-filled are:

• Set Product Properties
  Opens a dialog that provides a quick way to set a value for the product properties used by this Variable Product for the selected products.

• Update Names
  Opens a dialog that allows you to update the names of the selected products based on which product properties are set.

• Add Prices
  Opens a dialog that allows you to add prices to the selected products.

• Change Rows
  Opens a dialog that allows you to change the product’s description, product group or account/VAT group.
